Our Story

The essence of tradition: our heritage in chamomile excellence

In 1974, Don José Mendizábal received an opportunity that would define his career.

When the renowned company Budensieg offered him a position at their aromatic herb processing plant in Pehuajó, Argentina. This moment marked the beginning of a family chamomile enterprise that continues to set industry standards today.

After his time at Budensieg S.A., Don José advanced his career by joining Argenflora under the mentorship of Mr. Enzo Mábolo. This strategic partnership allowed him to refine and expand his expertise in chamomile cultivation and processing, establishing him as a recognised authority in the sector. The synergy between his previous experience and Mr. Mábolo's guidance resulted in improved production techniques and enhanced quality standards that elevated the company's reputation in the market.

The Seeds of a Family Enterprise

When circumstances led Don José to focus on farm management, his passion for herbs never diminished. As the business grew, so did his sons, who spent their summers learning every aspect of chamomile cultivation. Their connection to the land allowed them to find balance between innovation and traditional methods.

His sons, Javier and Martín Mendizábal, then teenagers, embraced this legacy with remarkable determination. Using second-hand harvesting equipment and tools, they began supplying chamomile to Budensieg, making it the foundation of the family business.

Armed with ingenuity and unwavering commitment, the Mendizábal brothers leased small field plots and mastered every aspect of production, from harvesting and drying to processing. In makeshift workshops, they built specialised machinery piece by piece, becoming true artisans of their craft.

The Mendizábals built their first drying shed in Francisco Madero, designing an air circulation system that we still use today.

What began as a modest operation has become a benchmark of quality and tradition. Our signature industrial powder, a blend of fine-cut chamomile, has been supplied exclusively to La Virginia, one of Argentina's most prestigious companies, for over 35 consecutive years.

Every bag of chamomile that leaves our facilities carries the dedication of two generations and our unwavering commitment to honouring the craft. We continue production with our self-built machinery because we believe authenticity cannot be manufactured – it must be cultivated.

Our Philiosophy

At Mendizábal Chamomile, we believe in the following principles:

  • The finest processes often stem from traditional wisdom.

  • The farmer's work is as crucial as the quality of the seed.

  • Plants cultivated with respect yield quality results.

  • Our relationship with the land is one of partnership, not dominion.

  • Family values and business values must be coherent.

"The chamomile flower is modest, yet of great value. We approach our work with the same spirit: simple methods, dedication to excellence in every detail."
